Poweroutage.

We had a power outage all day. We could have used these. I miss using these.

Clouds.

"You were made and set here to give voice to this, your own astonishment." Annie Dillard

"You paint the skies for me to see."

The clouds this week have been absolutely incredible. This doesn't happen in SoCal very often. The sky in Colorado always declared His beauty. Something that I took for granted.

Some things that made me smile this week.

Using these.

The colors. Talk about a proud smirk.

Who is the cutest?

Watching Gilmore Girls season 4 for the millionth time and catching, for the first time, Rory reading Atonement in episode 2. (It's not in this clip by the way.)

The beautiful Australian shepherd in Leap Year. (Not in this clip either.)

PG Tips and Digestives.

Probably my favorite snack. Always. Gotta love World Market for providing these foreign treasures to satisfy my need to feel British. Cheers.

One of these.

I saw one of these today. And I saw the whole thing. And it was beautiful. Aw, the treasures God gives us so that He can show us how much He loves us.

Dreamy.

Sometimes I wish I grew up in a time when computers weren't so central to our lives. There's a romanticism to searching for a book in the library, a mysterious comfort to picking up a newspaper rather than a mouse to get the morning news. The internet makes life so much easier, but so much less rewarding than from the simple effort we used to put into writing letters. The internet has made living vicariously the only way of living. It keeps us from discovering real life for ourselves; the textures, the smells, the thrill of the find, the adventure real life has to offer. The search for simplicity is rewarding. I find it in the rain.

The Girl (#7)

The real whole song is a musical masterpiece. This is short and kind of pitchy sometimes.

Blue Velvet.

Howl. This one actually sounds good.

Holy Rollers.

Blue Velvet.

The Freebie.

No idea if any of these are good, but I like their winter garb. And I like the idea of all these Hollywooders going to Park City, Utah and freezing.

California here we come.

Back to the land of hidden true beauty. I'll be spending my time searching for it.

Grey Gardens.

Relating to a single episode of Gilmore Girls.

And since you have no idea which episode this is, I took the liberty to look it up. Thank Gilmore-ism.com for that.

They were watching Grey Gardens before Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange redid it. And it was inspiring.

Little Edie: You can't have your cake and eat it, too in life.
Big Edie: Oh, yes, I did. I did, I had my cake, loved it, masticated it, chewed it and had everything I wanted.

Little Edie: I can't get the thumbtack in the wall. I have the saddest life.

Hitchcock.

Vanity Fair's stylish tribute to the classic directore of suspense. Don't overlook his quotes and originals that accompany each photo.

Ginger.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Mmmmm. So good with a cuppa chai. Keeps January spicy.

Ingredients

* 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 2 teaspoons ground ginger
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 3/4 cup margarine, softened
* 1 cup white sugar
* 1 egg
* 1 tablespoon water
* 1/4 cup molasses
* 2 tablespoons white sugar

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Sift together the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the margarine and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the water and molasses. Gradually stir the sifted ingredients into the molasses mixture. Shape dough into walnut sized balls, and roll them in the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar. Place the cookies 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet, and flatten slightly.
3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Store in an airtight container.

Love triangle.

Please excuse my nerdiness coming out, but I'm looking forward to the last season of Lost with bittersweet thoughts. The brilliant plot line with intense relationship dynamics will, sadly, be over, but hopefully the multitude of cliff-hanger questions will be answered.

Like, what on earth is up with Christian Shephard? He's supposed to be dead.
Where did Claire go and what has she been doing all this time?
Did Faraday's insane plan work? And what will happen to all of the survivors if it did? Will all of the people who have so tragically died (Charlie, Libby, Faraday, Boone) be alive?
Who's the bad guy, Ben or Widmore?
Who's the ultimate bad guy, Jacob or whoever took over Locke's body?
And of course, what will happen between Jack, Kate, and Sawyer? To tell you truth, all of these characters lost some of my proverbial respect over the past seasons and I think they all deserve each other for that reason, but if I had to pick I would choose Jack and Kate simply because these pictures are really adorable.
